"What if everyone else knows what they're doing?"
-
"Am I too unfit or inflexible to do Pilates?"
You're not alone, and you're in exactly the right place.
Our beginners' classes are designed for people who are completely new to Pilates. No previous experience needed. No need to be super fit or flexible.
Just book in, learn at your own pace and discover what Pilates can do for you.

What is Pilates?

Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century.
A sickly child, he was determined to overcome his physical limitations. Drawing on movements from gymnastics, yoga, skiing, fencing and dance, he developed a unique system of exercise to create the perfect balance of strength and flexibility. He called it Contrology.
Joseph Pilates believed that physical and mental health are closely connected, and breathing and concentration are two of the key principles of his method. That's why so many people leave class feeling calmer as well as stronger.
Today, Pilates helps people improve their posture, flexibility and muscle tone, ease back pain and strengthen their core, so the body moves more freely and efficiently. Because every exercise can be modified and adapted, Pilates suits all ages and fitness levels.
From your first classes, you'll…
Strengthen your core and the muscles that support your back
Move with greater ease and confidence
Improve mobility in your spine, hips and joints
Reduce the impact that everyday stiffness and niggles have on your life
Develop better balance, strength and body awareness
Enjoy an effective whole-body workout
What happens in your first class
Book in first.
Booking is essential, so we can get to know you and you can complete a short health questionnaire before your first class.
The class lasts about an hour.
The Pilates fundamentals, such as breathing, alignment and appropriate core engagement, are taught for each exercise, and you build from there.
Arrive a few minutes early.
Mel will say hello, show you where to set up and ask about any injuries or conditions she should know about.
Every exercise has options.
Mel will help you adapt exercises so that you have a version that works for your body and challenges you at a level that’s right for you.
Bring a mat or towel, a bottle of water and something comfortable to move in.
If you don't have small equipment yet, we'll lend you some for your taster class.
Everyone’s focused on themselves.
Nobody is watching you, we promise (they’re too busy concentrating!).

Meet Mel
Mel qualified as a personal trainer in 2014 and has specialised in Pilates ever since. In 2025 she completed a Biomechanics diploma, which helps her spot how injury or lifestyle has affected the way you move and how to improve it.
Her classes are informative and fun: she wants you to understand each exercise and enjoy it, because that's when progress happens.
