Meet the Pilates2theCore Team
Pilates2theCore is about taking Pilates right back to the core: strength, mobility and good technique, taught in a way that works for real bodies and fits real life.
Every one of our teachers is Body Control Pilates trained, keeps classes small, friendly and calm, and gets to know you by name.
We take what we do seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
Jane Lefever, Founder
I took up Pilates after the birth of my first baby, partly to rebuild some strength and partly because of a niggling lower back. I loved it. It made me feel taller and stronger, and I left every class feeling relaxed and revitalised (as much as you can with a small baby in tow!). It helped me get back to running, and the concentration it needs made it the perfect hour to forget everything else.
One day a friend suggested I should train as a teacher, and I haven't looked back. I've been teaching since 2015, starting with one evening class and growing Pilates2theCore into classes across the Surrey Hills villages.
What I love most is seeing people feel so much better. When clients tell me they're travelling, hiking, working or playing with their grandchildren without being held back by aches and niggles, that's what gives me joy. More recently, my Bone Strength work with women who have osteoporosis has been genuinely life-changing for the women who throw themselves into it.
I'm told I'm very calming, which surprised me at first! I'm also a bit of a nerd about how bodies work, and I put a lot of thought into every class.

Mel Truman
Teaches: Beginners' and Mixed Ability classes in Albury on Wednesday and Saturday mornings
Mel qualified as a personal trainer in 2014 and has specialised in Pilates ever since. In 2025 she completed a Biomechanics diploma, deepening her understanding of how the body works as one connected system. It helps her look beyond what she sees, spot how injury or lifestyle has changed the way you move, and help you build better movement patterns that last.
Mel believes exercise should be enjoyable. Her classes are informative and fun: she wants you to understand each exercise and how to apply it to your own body, because when movement is both fun and understood, it becomes something you look forward to.
"From the first class I felt re-energised and came back to work bounding up the stairs! Mel's a fantastic, really informative teacher and we have a good laugh too! Hiking, walking and wild swimming are passions of mine and I feel Pilates is giving me the 'tools' to help me continue to enjoy these as I get older." Kay W

Teaches: Mixed Ability classes at Ewhurst Youth and Sports Club (EYSC) on Thursday mornings
Having previously worked as a Primary School Teacher, I was able to transfer my passion for teaching and helping others into my career as a Pilates Teacher, qualifying with Body Control Pilates at Level 3 Matwork.
With a love of learning, I have continued to develop my knowledge and skills, gaining specialist qualifications in neurological conditions, older adults, osteoporosis and pregnancy, as well as qualifying as a Back4Good Practitioner to support clients experiencing low back pain through one-to-one sessions.
My classes are welcoming and inclusive, and I aim to make Pilates accessible to everyone, whatever their age, ability or individual needs. I am passionate about helping people move with greater confidence, improve their well-being and discover the benefits of Pilates.
When I’m not teaching or studying, I love spending time at my holiday home in Andalucia, Spain.
