Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century. Joseph Pilates was a sickly child but was determined to overcome his physical limitations. Drawing on movements from gymnastics, yoga, skiing, fencing and dance he developed a unique technique and system of exercise to create the perfect balance of strength and flexibility. He called it Contrology.
Pilates believed that physical and mental health are closely connected and his method is designed to improve both your physical and mental well-being – breathing and concentration are 2 of the key guiding principles of Pilates.
Pilates can help to correct poor posture, improve flexibility and muscle tone, relieve back pain, and trim waistlines! Pilates strengthens the core allowing the body to move more freely and efficiently.
As Pilates exercises can be modified and adapted Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels – I teach clients from as young as 8yrs old to over 80yrs!
